Embracing AI – the Bounce way!

I remember a post we did on socials 12 months ago titled ‘AI free zone.’

It highlighted how all our training was crafted, created and delivered by real people. And that we weren’t relying on AI to deliver content to our clients.

Fast forward 12 months and here’s what we know: AI can’t replace people (especially those working in client-facing roles), but it can support people on their journey to become better job coaches, leaders and team members.

Instead of steering clear of AI, we decided to embrace it and set a goal to carefully consider how it could support learners throughout their learning journey.

It wouldn’t replace human insight, experience, or coaching judgment, and needed to strengthen how people learn, reflect, and apply what they know.

And that’s how Compass by Bounce was born!

Why AI works best as a learning support (not a shortcut)

A growing body of education research shows that AI is most effective when it acts as a learning companion, rather than an answer engine.

Large-scale meta-analyses in education consistently show that AI-supported learning tools, particularly those that encourage reflection, practice, and personalised feedback, can significantly improve learning outcomes and learner confidence when combined with human-led instruction.

Studies of intelligent tutoring systems and AI-supported learning environments found learning gains comparable to traditional teaching approaches, especially when learners actively apply concepts rather than passively consume information.

Crucially, researchers also note that AI is not a replacement for human educators or mentors. Instead, the strongest outcomes occur when AI supports deepening knowledge, practical application, and confidence-building alongside structured learning and human facilitation.

That distinction matters, particularly in coaching and employment services, where context, judgement, and ethical decision-making are core skills.

Supporting Job Coaches in the moments that matter

Job Coaches often tell us the hardest part of learning is knowing how to use it in situations relevant to their work. This is where AI can play a meaningful role.

When designed well, AI learning agents can:

  • Help learners work through hypothetical scenarios using the language and principles of their training.
  • Prompt deeper reflection rather than providing “right answers.”
  • Support confidence by allowing safe practice between sessions.

Recent research into human–AI collaboration in education highlights that AI is most valuable when it supports metacognition. In other words, it helps learners think about their thinking, test ideas, and explore options without judgement.

For participants moving through Job Coach Certification, this kind of support can make the difference between knowing a concept and confidently applying it with a client.

AI, confidence, and self-efficacy in learning

Confidence matters in coaching, and it matters in learning, too.

2026 meta-analysis examining AI’s impact on learner self-efficacy found that AI-supported learning environments had a significant positive effect on learners’ confidence in their own ability to apply new skills. The effect was strongest when AI tools were positioned as guides or supports, rather than evaluators or instructors.

This aligns closely with our learning philosophy: build capability through practice, reflection, and thoughtful questioning.

When learners feel supported rather than assessed, they’re more likely to experiment, reflect honestly, and build confidence over time.

What does this mean for learners?

In practical terms, AI can support Job Coaches during their training by acting as a between-session learning guide.

Instead of replacing trainers or coursework, AI can help learners:

  • Bring a hypothetical coaching scenario into focus
  • Explore how Bounce tools and approaches might apply
  • Test different ways of thinking through a situation
  • Build confidence before applying learning in the real world

This kind of “in-the-moment” support is especially valuable in adult learning.

Personalised and adaptive learning research consistently shows that learners benefit when support is available at the point of need, rather than only during scheduled training sessions.

Keeping people at the centre

Of course, thoughtful use of AI also means being clear about boundaries.

Research repeatedly emphasises that effective AI-supported learning must:

  • Preserve human judgement and ethical responsibility
  • Avoid over-reliance on automated responses
  • Be transparent, supportive, and aligned to human values

That’s why Bounce’s approach to AI now includes Compass by Bounce – an AI learning guide grounded in a simple principle: support people, don’t replace them.

Used well, AI becomes another tool in the learning journey that helps Job Coaches reflect more deeply, practise more confidently, and apply what they’re learning with greater clarity.

Ethical use of AI

Bounce takes the ethical use of AI seriously and ensures that its use aligns to Australian privacy standards and laws.

Here’s our position:

Compass by Bounce is designed as a capability-building tool for practitioners. It does not process participant data, does not make decisions, and operates within strict privacy and ethical guidelines aligned to Australian privacy standards.
