Our Job Coach Certification course has helped hundreds of frontline workers in employment services build their coaching skills and now we’re excited to take the training tools and strategies to the world.

CDP Providers making a difference

I was invited to the NIAA CDP Forum in Adelaide as a guest of our CDP partner Nyirrungulung Rise last month, and it was an amazing experience.

CDP providers are doing incredible work in remote communities, helping First Nations participants by increasing their skills and capacity to find employment.

There’s still uncertainty around the future of CDP, and we know that providers are finding it challenging to future plan, but we have seen a number of progressive providers building the capability of their workforce by investing in the professional development of their frontline workers and leaders.

This month we’re doing something a little different…I’d like to introduce our newest segment, “Job Coach of the Month.” Every couple of months, I’m going to do a little interview with participants of our Job Coach Certification course to learn more about their experience with the program.

Let me introduce you to Reena Pilot…

Reena, or ‘Auntie’ as she is affectionately known, works for Meriba Ged Ngalpun Mab (MGNM), which is part of Gur a Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council (GBK) in the Torres Straight Islands.

Reena has embraced all the learning opportunities inside our Job Coach Certification program, opening her heart and mind to the concepts in the training and building her coaching skills.

We sat down for a chat about her experience in Job Coach Certification.

Q: What did you discover about yourself?

After completing Module 1, I discovered that becoming a good Job Coach starts with having a clear state of mind and understanding that my perceptions of my clients could limit my ability to help them. I love the 5 Frames of Coaching – they are important to help me understand and enable me to develop and increase my knowledge – they are so powerful! I look forward to being able to encourage my clients to reach a decision and to have a successful outcome for their future endeavours and to make their own decisions.

Q: How do you feel about your ability to support your clients now?

After completing this incredible course, I am confident that I have developed the necessary skills and ability to enable me to perform really well as a job coach and support my clients to move forward. I will continue to be mindful of the needs of my clients and also to be mindful of my words and body language to help build connection and trust. I love the tool MORE Ways to Change your Thinking – it will be a go-to tool for me to use with all my clients to help them flip their limiting beliefs.

I’ve been on a round-the-world trip again, visiting the US to train new trainers at QCC and MassHire in Worchester and Quincy, MA and then onto the UK to deliver our Coaching Skills for Leaders program with a new partnership with Jobs 22. It’s exciting to be starting a new partnership with Jobs 22 – they are an employability business founded by the charity Catch22, and the Angus Knight Group. We’ve been working with the Angus Knight Group in Australia for a few years now, and we’re eager to expand our reach into the UK with Jobs 22.

And, of course, I’m so energised about the upcoming release of our new book – Building Resilient Pathways! After releasing our Job Coach Certification course three years ago, I knew a book would complement the program perfectly. Stay tuned for updates and a sneak peek into the first chapter in the coming months!
